Why I Dont Take Birth Control - Daysy Fertility Tracker

The idea of taking Birth Control was one that never really crossed my mind throughout my teenage years. This is so ironic to me because all of my peers were on some form of birth control, whether it be the copper IUD, the Mirena IUD, the good ole' pill, the patch, etc. I had never shown any interest or concern in joining the club, yet I have educated myself extensively on Birth control, from the pill, to the Fertility Awareness method, to the IUD. I seem to know more than those who have taken it blindly, though I am very aware that is not always the case.
Before I get into the non-hormonal Birth Control I use, I want to touch briefly on why I refuse to use Hormonal BC- Including the copper IUD.
Slight Increased Risk of Cervical Cancer
This is not a cause for TOO much concern as this risk is very slight, however it should still be taken into account when choosing any form of Birth control. According to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center "Most oral contraceptives contain man-made versions of the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. Taking the pill changes your hormone levels, which can trigger — or in some cases prevent — some female cancers." However, the pill has also been shown to decrease other risks of female related forms of cancers like uterine cancers.
Low Libido/Sex Drive
This is a side effect that affects as mall percentage of women (all though my Instagram Direct Message box says otherwise). So many women have complained to me that they so desperately want to get off of their BC because it has completely thrown their sex lives out of the window. This is because of the way in which your body chemistry reacts to the sex hormones (estrogen and progesterone) in your BC. Some women will become affected by low desire and some may feel no affect at all.
Weight Gain
Majority of women will experience weight gain after going on hormonal birth control. But do not fear too much, most of this weight gain is more often than not, fluid retention. Some women notice that this sudden weight gain subsides within a few months, and for some it is harder to lose.
Infertility
If you are on the pill, my guess is that your are NOT trying to fall pregnant...
But what about in the future? I don't know about you, but I really want to become a mother one day, and I would prefer not to have any synthetic hormones tampering with my body, which could possibly prevent me from fulfilling that dream.
The whole host of infertility issues include disruptions in one's period, Hormonal imbalances from the flood of synthetic (not real) hormones throwing your precious bod out of wack, changes in your fertility signs, such as your cervical fluid, and changes to the Uterine lining. The Pill changes the uterine lining to make it unreceptive to the implantation of a fertilized egg. "By controlling the body’s estrogen and progesterone levels with synthetic hormones, the Pill does not allow for the proper levels of progesterone to build a healthy uterine lining for implantation."
This 'wear and tear' caused by the synthetic hormones is a gradual effect. The longer you continue to take hormonal birth control, the harder it may be for you to conceive in the future.
I knew that I did not want to use any invasive form of BC like the ones I have just mentioned, so I decided to dig a little deeper. I knew their were other, more natural options.
And sure enough, I stumbled upon the Daysy Fertility Tracker. Daysy is the sister to the Lady Comp, except she is $200 less expensive and is more compact and easy for any woman to use.
The Daysy is based off of the FAM method, or the "Fertility Awareness method" in that the Daysy tracks and records your temperature to pinpoint ovulation. FAM is the method of birth control I was practicing before I decided to make the switch to the Daysy. Within it, you track your cervical fluid, your basal temperature, and your cervical position/openness. And while I really enjoyed this method and it help me become more in tune and aware of my body and monthly cycle, it was a lot to keep track of all at once. I will always use FAM in conjunction to Daysy, just because it brings me peace of mind, and I enjoy observing my body.

So how does Daysy work and why should you consider her as YOUR own form of Birth Control?
Daysy works together with your devotion to being consistent in taking your temperature EVERY morning. It is as simple as that...Just take your temperature every morning after a restful sleep. After this simple task, Daysy will display your fertility status for the day in either a red, green, or yellow light. Below I have explained what each fertility status means: . What does each light mean?
💚- Green means that you are NOT fertile. Meaning you are in the clear to have unprotected sex.
💛- Yellow means you've just started using Daysy and shes STILL learning your cycle. Or your temps are fluctuating and shes still trying to figure out your cycle. During yellow days, its best to use a barrier method (condom) to prevent any unwanted pregnancy. You may also use a diaphragm accompanied by a natural spermicide if that is a better option for you.
❤️- Red means DO NOT have unprotected sex during these days. Its best to either abstain from sex. Or use a barrier method. Ultimately this is your decision but you put yourself at risk. If you do not use a barrier method. I encourage every woman to use a barrier method. . In a nutshell, that is how she works in preventing pregnancy! Accompanied by the DaysyView app, where you can see your cycle and the rise and fall in temps, as well as logging your period if you forget to log it on Daysy itself. You can see Daysy's predictions as to where you will be in your cycle in the future which helps you to plan around your cycle if need-be.
